Richmond Montessori School is an independent Montessori school serving children from Toddler through Eighth Grade. Here, rigorous academics are paired with purposeful, hands-on learning that nurtures curiosity, independence, and a lifelong love of discovery.

Richmond Montessori School is proud to be dually accredited by the American Montessori Society (AMS) and the Virginia Association of Independent Schools (VAIS), a distinction that reflects our commitment to both authentic Montessori education and exceptional independent-school standards. For families, accreditation provides an important layer of confidence. It means RMS undergoes a rigorous process of evaluation and continuous improvement, examining everything from teaching and learning to leadership, governance, student experience, and school operations.
Our dual accreditation affirms that families don't have to choose between the principles of Montessori and high academic rigor. At RMS, Montessori philosophy, academic excellence, and accountability work together to create an exceptional educational experience for every child.
Our Campus
Spanning 10 acres across two campuses, RMS provides an environment that nurtures both mind and body. Students enjoy a soccer field, a dedicated art studio, a full gymnasium, an outdoor classroom, five unique playgrounds, and a performing arts center. Surrounded by trees and natural play spaces, children also have daily opportunities to connect with nature, an essential part of the Montessori experience.
Our campus features six academic buildings, STEM Lab, an outdoor classroom, and a Library and Media Center.
